How to Build an Effective Team

Note: These tips may help you in battle but do not guarantee victory. Various factors can influence the outcome of a fight: hero level, main and secondary stats, opponent power, game mode, and control effects.

Due to the variety of opponent teams you may face in the game, no single party will win every battle. While gathering a team, pay attention to the opponent heroes, the skills they use, and their weaknesses. Finding effective counter-heroes will certainly influence the battle outcome.

1. Pay attention to the roles of your heroes. To increase the chances of winning a battle, your team should include one tank, at least one support or healer, and a couple of warriors/mages/marksmen. A tank defends the team; a support or healer restores health and applies buffs, while warriors, mages, or marksmen deal damage. There are exceptions to this rule, but a team of five healers would hardly be able to fight efficiently.

2. Consider the synergy of your team. Some heroes are designed to boost each other.

One of the most well-known combinations is Lars and Krista. Krista uses her Frozen Needles skill to create ice thorns that cause damage to any rival moving through them. Lars uses the Lord of the Storm skill and drags opponents through the thorns. Thus, they effectively damage rivals. You can find other combination tips in this article.

Also, some heroes have an additional stat—a special trait. Certain abilities grant certain bonuses to all characters with the same special trait. For example, Corvus and Morrigan have the Undead trait. Thus, their skills complement each other in battle.

3. Pick suitable pets.

    1. Select a pet for battle based on your team's core characters. For example, Merlin boosts mages, making him a good choice for a mage team.
    2. Pick a suitable patron pet to boost each of your heroes. For example, Cain's Dark Patron skill allows the hero to gain bonus energy for each successful dodge. This skill will be helpful to Aurora, Dante, and Jet.

4. Check the opponent's team composition. Pay particular attention to the types of damage they inflict and are resistant to. For example, if your opponent is resistant to magic damage, gather a team that deals physical or pure damage.

5. Examine if the opposing team's heroes apply control effects. For example, if the opposing heroes have skills that can displace characters, take a hero who protects others from displacement.

6. Make sure that your opponent does not have resistance to your characters' skills. For example, Faceless will be of little use in a battle against an opponent that cannot be thrown into the air (like Brog the Conqueror in the Outland).

7. Select a suitable War Flag to enhance your team. For example, War Flag of Decline decreases the healing of the opposing team, so it will be effective against opponents that rely on healing abilities.
