Note: This article features answers to frequently asked questions about the combat system: how hero skills work, how energy generation affects battles, how team composition can play a crucial role in combat, and much more!
If you still have questions regarding a specific battle, take the following steps to understand what is going on:
-
Read the skill descriptions of each unit that participated in the battle. There are over 200 abilities in the game, and their interaction is usually the key. For example, if a hero has chosen a different target than you expected, pay attention to the skills that can influence target selection. Jorgen's Leper is one such skill.
You can also view the percentage values of the stats that a skill scales with. To do so, open Settings
, go to the Gameplay tab, and switch the toggle on next to the Complete Skill Info:
That is how the skill description looks when the option is enabled:
-
Check the damage type the characters deal. Some heroes have resistance to certain types of damage, so they may take less damage than expected.
Note: Heroes' basic attacks deal physical damage, with the exception of Satori, Celeste, and Augustus. If you need to deal magic damage, look for heroes who use skills inflicting this type of damage.
- Check if your heroes are under any control effects. These effects may drastically change the course of a battle.
-
Check the active effects from War Flags and the first artifacts. If damage is too high or too low, most likely, the heroes are under buffs. Artifact and War Flag bonuses affect the whole team.
You can see the artifact effect icons in the upper-left and upper-right corners of the screen. Hover over the buff to see its description:
If you still have not figured everything out, you can discuss the battle with the members of your Guild or ask other players for help on our official communities.
We also recommend using Combat Training to explore the combat system in depth. In the training mode, you can examine battles more precisely, experiment with hero combinations, test skills, etc. Pay attention to the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. Well-chosen heroes may sometimes defeat opponents even when outnumbered.
